Are you living authentically?

Mark Lyndon-Jones offers 10 Bible-based steps to help you become more grounded.

1) Daily reflection – “But let a man examine himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:28)

Set aside time each day for self-reflection and prayer, asking God to reveal areas where you may be living inauthentically.

2) Be transparent in relationships ‒ “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.” (James 5:16)

Foster open communication with friends and family. Share your struggles and victories, creating an environment of trust.

3) Engage in honest conversations ‒ “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17)

Initiate discussions about faith, doubts and life-challenges with other Christian men. This vulnerability can strengthen bonds and encourage authenticity.

4) Set realistic expectations ‒ “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

Recognise that perfection is unattainable. Embrace your flaws and focus on growth rather than comparison with others.

5) Prioritise integrity ‒ “The integrity of the upright guides them.” (Proverbs 11:3)

Commit to living out your values consistently, both in public and private. Let your actions reflect your beliefs.

6) Seek accountability ‒ “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds…” (Hebrews 10:24)

Find an accountability partner or group where you can share your journey, receive encouragement, and hold one another accountable.

7) Practise gratitude ‒ “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Cultivate a habit of gratitude by regularly acknowledging the blessings in your life. This can help shift focus from appearances to genuine appreciation.

8) Serve others ‒ “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)

Engage in acts of service within your community and church. Serving others can ground you in humility and authenticity.

9) Limit social media influence ‒ “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age.” (Ephesians 6:12)

Take breaks from social media to avoid the temptation of comparing yourself to the curated images of others’ lives. Focus on real-life connections instead.

10) Commit to continuous learning ‒ “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom.” (Colossians 3:16)

Invest time in studying the Bible and Christian literature that encourages authenticity. Seek teachings that challenge you to live genuinely.
