October 2024 Roof Appeal

"It Doesn't Rain, But It Pours"

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, Hungary has been hit by devastating floods recently, causing widespread damage and displacing countless families. While our home was fortunately spared from the floods, it wasn’t spared from the rain. We are now facing an unexpected crisis that has left us quite overwhelmed - and in need of your help.

During the recent storms, our roof began to leak. What started as a few drips quickly turned into a big problem, resulting in strategically placed towels and containers to lessen the damage. After consulting with contractors, the verdict is clear: the roof needs to be completely replaced.

The unfortunate news? Our insurance company won’t cover any of it. They’ve deemed the roof too old and in too poor a condition to be eligible for any coverage. It's a harsh reality, but it's the one we're faced with. The roof has held up for many years, but the heavy rains were simply too much for it.

We’re now reaching out to our community, friends, and family with a fundraising appeal. Replacing a roof is no small feat, and the financial burden of such an unexpected expense is more than we can shoulder alone. With the winter months fast approaching, this is something we need to act on quickly to avoid further damage to our home.

Can You Help?

We are hoping to raise £18,500 to cover the cost of replacing the roof, which doesn’t include any repairs needed to fix the water damage inside. Every contribution, no matter the size, would mean the world to us and will go directly toward securing our home before the cold weather sets in.

If you’d like to help, you can donate and follow our progress. If you’re unable to donate, sharing our story with others would be just as helpful.

What’s at Stake
The roof isn’t just a structural part of our home—it’s our protection. Without it, we’re vulnerable to more damage with every storm that passes. The walls, ceilings, and everything beneath them are at risk of further ruin. Replacing the roof now is a preventative step to avoid what could be even costlier repairs down the road.

Of course, the fact that we use our home to help those in crisis and also to host our discipleship activities makes it all the more important. While it feels like "when it rains, it pours," we know that we are still in the right place doing the right thing. Your support—whether through a donation, prayers or simply spreading the word—will help us get through this. We’re incredibly grateful for any support you can offer.

With blessings and appreciation
Roy & Lainey
