Great model making skills at one of our adult Bible studies using modelling clay, and discussing how we are “jars of clay” 2 Corinthians 4:7

Disclaimer: In many of the photos the children & adults are not wearing facemasks, this is because we are visiting them in their homes. Be reassured all the volunteers are wearing facemasks and adhering to the locally prescribed hygiene standards.

Reeve's Supporters Newsletter September 2021
Back into the swing of it again & exciting new things ahead!

We are extremely relieved to be out of the last lot of strict restrictions here on Coron. We are excited to have been able to restart all our previous ministries and even add in new ones, keep reading for details!

Superheroes Summer School - Part 2

Following the last lockdown and subsequent restrictions on gatherings being lifted on 1 st August we were able to resume the work here fully again.

Not sure who was more excited to be able to hold the 4-remaining summer schools, the children or us! They were in the remaining areas where we had to postpone due to the lockdown. The children were super excited and enjoyed all the fun activities. We were so happy to see so many learning the memory verses and engaging with the Heroes of the Bible stories. We pray for God to continue to move in these youngster’s lives.

Fun and games!

We were thankful for all the help from the church youth, also from parents, many of whom attend the small adult groups. They made sure the areas were ready for us when we arrived and helped with all the activities. They were all amazing!

Three of the amazing Mums that helped us with the 50 plus children at the dumpsite.

Exciting News – Youth Craft Group

We have started a new craft group in a compound near to where our home is. It is an area where there is already an established children’s club and where Pastora Riza holds an adult small group. We identified a need to keep the youth and pre youth/tweens engaged more and so will be holding a craft activity group where we can spend time in fellowship with them and build relationships whilst having fun craft activities.

Amazing creations from the first group.

We would like to thank family members and Salisbury Elim Church who donated and sent boxes of craft items for us to use with these young people. We were again overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness. It is such a blessing to everyone here, thank you so much!

More Exciting news – School Reopening

We are very excited to share some more news with you. We were sad that the pre-school closed last year due to the pandemic and ban on face-to-face classes. Following discussions with the sponsors and all involved, the decision has been made to reopen the pre-school this year through home learning using electronic tablets and supporting printed modules. City Gates Academy in Manila have been successfully using this system for the past school year and as a team, we hope to learn from all they have achieved and adopt a similar system here on Coron. We give huge thanks for our fellow missionary, Lynette Orange, the principal of the school in Manila, who will also be coordinating all the academic aspects of the school here on Coron. We are still in the early stages of planning and preparing for this so please hold this and us all in your prayers as we move into this exciting new season.

New Home

Our lease was coming to an end on the property we were renting, and God opened a door for a wonderful opportunity to rent a house from a couple who regularly open their home up for one of the children’s clubs and adult small groups. We feel so blessed to have had this opportunity. The area is close to some areas we minister in and was also financially a better opportunity.

We are so thankful to Rhea and Joel for their love to us and help in getting the house ready for us to move in. It just needed some renovations to make it comfortable for us, for example, a flushing toilet and a kitchen sink! It is a lovely peaceful place where we can take rest and refresh in between the work.

Initially on moving in we only had internet signal to have WhatsApp calls with family however it was not strong enough for us to download or join bigger meetings on zoom etc. we were thankfully to God for even this. It did mean that we had to frequently visit cafes in town that offered free Wi-Fi, on the plus side we had an excuse to enjoy lovely, brewed coffee! In the past two weeks we have managed to find a company that was able to get us an antenna and modem box that is able to pick up a great signal, albeit on two very long bamboo poles!

It is so great being able to video call family and friends from home without a 2-minute delay in speaking or losing the connection every few seconds!

Welcome Baby Zoe!

Thank you for praying for Miss Rosel as she prepared to have her baby. We celebrated her baby shower as a church together and the babies’ gender was revealed, a girl!

Due to the baby not turning into position, once she went into labour, Miss Rosel was taken to Culion Island to the hospital there so she could have a Caesarean Section delivery. We thank God that her mother was able to go with her following swab tests for Covid and that baby Zoe was delivered safely. On return they have been required to isolate at home for 14 days, so we all had to wait patiently to meet baby Zoe. But the wait was worth it, she is beautiful!

Birthday Treat!

10

For my (James) Birthday treat we paid a visit to McDonalds with this lovely family who have become good friends and invaluable for their help and support.

Praise and Prayer

Thank you for your prayers.

  • Thank God for the safe arrival of Baby Zoe.
  • Praise God that we are now out of very strict restrictions and can proceed with the work and start new ventures.
  • Praise God for the increased number of adults and children attending the small groups and children’s clubs.
  • Please pray for the preparations for the pre-school to reopen.
  • Thank God that more people on the island are having Covid-19 vaccine. Please pray for more vaccines to be sent.
  • We are very thankful to God for the lovely new home we rent, also for Rhea and Joel.
  • We start the process of renewing our 2 year visas this month in preparation for renewal in Jan 2022, please pray this will be a smooth and fast process. Once completed, we will be able to visit the UK knowing we will be allowed to return again to the Philippines with our new visas.

Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter, we are so thankful for all your support and could not be doing any of this work without you.
Many Blessings
Love from Andrea and James
