Targeted prayer - a guide to help get answers

Prayer is vital to the life of every disciple, leader and church. Yet we so often struggle to get motivated, to move into deeper intercession and to know what and how to pray.

The Elim Prayer team have a real desire to equip the church in and for prayer. God has shown us the need for strategic prayer and resourcing, so we started a project to create prayer guides for individual, small group and church use. Little did we realise that this seed of an idea would grow to become a resource for Elim and the wider Body of Christ.

Equipped to pray

How can we lead in prayer? How can we keep focused? How can we hear from God in order to align our prayers with his purpose? How can we see more answers to prayer?

These questions lead us to think more widely. We realised that providing prayer points was just the starting point. As we spent time praying together in a conference room at the Elim International Office in Malvern (dubbed our prayer room as we often meet there to wait on God) an idea began to form.

Roger Grassham, with the editing help of June Freudenberg, started to write on how to prepare for intercessory prayer; the preparation of the person, the time, the format, the information in order to follow the leading of the Spirit. He created a framework for prayer and as the writing, gathering information and refining continued, a book entitled 'Targeted Prayer' with specific prayer guides was born!

If we aim at nothing, we run the risk of hitting nothing. If we aim at everything, we run the risk of hitting nothing. This is true of intercessory prayer. In order to stand in the gap on behalf of others, it’s imperative we target our prayers as lead by the Spirit.

How do we target our prayers?

'Targeted Prayer' will help give shape to a focused prayer subject, and can be used by individuals, groups, or a whole church. By using the prayer guides, a person or group can intercede knowing more information about a particular subject.

The material that is presented in each guide should help you pray more consistently and learn how to ask questions of God, having researched background, history and the context of the specific subject matter. It is predominantly designed to be a ‘handbook’ for those who want to become more focused in prayer at a deeper level and see that targeted prayer gets targeted answers!

Roger comments, “I want the book and guides to be a useful tool for strategically focused prayer. To help people pray more deeply, with more understanding and see more answers to prayer.”

Targeted Prayer Resource Evening
