Reeve's Supporters Newsletter -  February 2020

reeves1Love is in the Air!

Valentines is a big thing here in The Philippines and they seemed to start the celebrations from the beginning of February! There are hearts, chocolates and ‘silk’ roses for sale everywhere you look. Many of the cafés and restaurants put up decorations.

Not to miss out at City Gates we held a Valentine’s party for the children and their parents.

Valentines

It was fortuitus that February 14 th was on a Friday this year, so it fell nicely for one of our regular fun Fridays. So, we had great fun organising a party with the teachers and Ps Riza.

The theme for the costumes was “twinning”, it was so lovely to see the parents and children in matching outfits. Of course, there were prizes for the most creative costume made from recycled materials.

reeves4The morning events started with a biblical message on ‘love’ from Ps Riza. This was followed with games for parent and children teams to join in, we both had ‘adoptive’ children for a couple of the games so that the children without parents would not miss out on the fun.

As with any respectable Filipino event it was rounded off with sharing food together.

Children’s Clubs

The weekly Saturday morning children’s clubs continue to be well attended. Saturday 29 th February was our joint celebration when all the children from the 4 areas come together for songs, bible message, games, arts and crafts and food. The message was The Prodigal Son which has concluded our recent series on Jesus’ Parables.

The background work continues to start a Children’s Club in the new area we shared with you last month.

Movie Mondays!

reeves8This month it was agreed that we would show some Christian movies for the City Gates parents to watch following their daily chores around the school. This has been a great time of fellowship and an opportunity for them to watch a film with a message. So far, we have watched War Room, Heaven is for real and Miracles from Heaven. There has been a number of tears shed as these films are based on true life events of how God has worked in peoples lives or individuals’ experiences of God.

Trip to Mount Talapay

It was a pleasure to join some of the church members, parents, children and staff on a trip to Mount Talapay. It was a lovely time for the parents and children to enjoy a special trip out, to have a time to relax and for us to build on relationships.

It was great to be able to also invite them all to our new home on the way back to share some refreshments with them.

The boxes have arrived!!

reeves10We are really grateful for family and friends who collected and sent out 3 large boxes full of clothes, shoes, toys and craft materials. They arrived from Manila along with boxes of tinned fish and meat for the school and outreaches, also with tables, chairs and school resources from a Hong Kong charity.

We will be giving out the clothes etc in the next few weeks to the neediest in the community. There is great excitement amongst the school parents.

Praise and Prayer

Thank you for your prayers.

  • Thank you for your prayers regarding James’ new passport. We praise God that it was processed really quickly and returned to the Philippines safely. It is now back in the hands of the agent who will arrange to have our visas stamped in them.
  • Please pray for planning and preparation for the graduation and moving up ceremony for the children at City Gates Academy. Pray for the children as they learn their lines for the play and the action songs.
  • Please pray for continued preparation for the summer bible school. Please pray for volunteers to help with teaching, cooking and activities.
  • Continue to pray for open doors for the opportunity to start a 5 th kids club in a new area.
  • We thank God that we now have a local High School Teacher who is teaching us Tagalog each week.
  • Continue to pray for our health during this very busy time.

Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter, we are so thankful for all your support and could not be doing any of this work without you.
Many Blessings
Love from Andrea and James
